What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?
An elective ultrasound is a 2D, 3D and/or 4D ultrasound that is performed to create a wonderful bonding experience for the mother, father and other family members to the baby. This is done through the realistic images that we are able to capture. Elective ultrasounds should NEVER take place of any diagnostic or medical ultrasound recommended by your physician. A diagnostic ultrasound should also always be performed prior to an elective ultrasound.
Is it safe? Are there any risks to me or my baby?
Extensive research and studies have been performed for over 40 years and it has all consistently shown that ultrasound does not cause any maternal or fetal harm. Routine diagnostic imaging has become a common practice in all pregnancies and the 3D/4D scans use the EXACT SAME type of ultrasound wave and intensity as a traditional 2D scan.
There is not additional intensity, frequency or “power” output to create these incredible images. We consistently use what’s called an OB application mode created by the manufacturer to perform the ultrasounds. This mode is well below the FDA limits of 94 milliwatts/cm2. If you have any additional concerns please don’t hesitate to reach out to us or discuss further with your doctor.
Is the 4D ultrasound covered by Insurance?
Up to this point, insurance does not cover the cost of elective ultrasounds. The cost for our ultrasounds is considered an out of pocket expense.
What can I do to improve the images of my ultrasound?
WATER, WATER, and more WATER!!! Please consider drinking plenty of water as much as 7 days prior to your ultrasound. It will improve the quality of the ultrasound. Moms that are fuller figured can also consider scheduling their 3D/4D ultrasounds around 30-35 weeks; the images tend to be clearer and more optimal.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Women who decide to visit us at Oh, Baby 3D/4D must be receiving medical treatment in the form of prenatal care from their healthcare provider. Women must also have had a diagnostic ultrasound confirming pregnancy, confirming estimated date of delivering and surveying for fetal anomalies of complications with the pregnancy. At no time should the ultrasounds at Oh, Baby 3D/4D be confused with the diagnostic ultrasounds necessary for prenatal care.

Do I need an appointment?
Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services.

Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?
Yes, in almost all cases we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby as early as 15 weeks. We can't however guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as body tissue content, developmental stage and fetal position all affect the ability to determine sex. We will do our absolute best to provide and confirm the baby’s gender, when asked.

How far along should I be before I have a 4D ultrasound?
We recommend 26-39th week of pregnancy. During this time, we are typically able to produce excellent images of the baby. However, we will scan as early as 8 weeks gestational age. Many mothers decide to have multiple sessions throughout their pregnancy.
Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?
Almost always is the answer. Sometimes if the baby’s position is consistently face down (towards the mother’s spine) it can be difficult to see the face. We will do everything we can to try to get the baby into a better position during the appointment. We can’t guarantee that images will be perfect. Everyone scans a little differently. We will work as hard as we can to meet your expectations and create the best possible images of the baby possible.
Can I bring my family and friends?
Absolutely! We encourage it. We love to create bonding experiences for family members and friends.
